| Just
thinking about washing 11,000 milk bottles a day makes me tired! That’s
how many bottles they wash at the Longmont Dairy processing plant. Luckily
there is a big bottle washing machine that does all of the work. Think of
it like a combination dishwasher / carousel. That’s like a merry-go-round
where you take a bath!!
Our glass milk bottles are the best for
keeping the natural taste of milk, so they have to be really clean. First
the bottles soak. They ride around the carousel where they get filled with
soapy water. Then a conveyer belt turns them upside down and the water
dumps out. Now the bottles are riding around the carousel up-side-down.
Special jets ( like the end of your garden hose) shoot hot, soapy water,
then clear rinse water, up into each bottle. As they drip-dry, the
conveyer belt moves them right over to the milk machine!
What a ride! It sounds like a crazy way to
get clean!
