"Riders in the Night"

Milkmen go to over 150 houses a night

The milkmen are responsible for getting Longmont Dairy milk to your home, fresh and chilled, before dawn. So they start driving at about midnight, with their load of milk, cheese and ice. There are lots of trucks which travel from Berthoud to Wheatridge. Each driver goes to over 150 house every night delivering milk as quietly as possible.

When the milkman gets to your house he looks in his order book to see what you want, then pulls the right bottles out of the back of the truck. Sometimes he gets messages or letters or drawings that his customers have left in their milk box. He tries to fill the special requests if he has extra milk on the truck. Then he is off to the next house on his route. He is like an athlete, running a race every night.

Each milkman drives 5 different routes per week. They drive the same 5 routes each week so they can remember the houses of customers more easily. By the time he gets back to the dairy, he is tired, but he still has to clean out the back of the truck. So he washes the whole thing down with a spray from the hose. That keeps it nice and clean.

Well, that's about it!  Now you know how fast we get our milk from our cows to your home.  That's why Longmont Dairy Milk is so fresh and tastes so good.  Delivered right to your door - well you can't beat that for value!

Thanks for taking the tour -
